Show / Display

Gosport Museum & Art Gallery (the Activity Room), Walpole Road,  Gosport, Hampshire, PO12 1NS

Needles, pins, thread, and odd scraps of material feature in this display of work and demos by the super-talented Alverstoke Quilters. Will they inspire you to dig out some waste material and get creative with stitching?

The Alverstoke Quilters keep this traditional skill alive and vibrant in Gosport. Having outgrown the kitchen table around which a small group first met 30 years ago, nowadays a friendly mixed-age group of like-minded people meets weekly in the parish hall to indulge in their passion for textiles and stitching.

The quality of work they produce for exhibitions is amazing. But in this display, they’ll be showing how even just scraps of material that might be considered waste and destined for the bin, can be recycled and creatively turned into something that is either beautiful or practical or both!

You’ll view a display of their work; see demonstrations of techniques; and have time to ask lots of questions.

On entry, please ask for The Activity Room. There may be a short wait if the room is full, but there are plenty of other things to see at the venue.

Duration: Allow 45 minutes.
