The Gibraltar Connection – recording
Gosport, Hampshire
Gosport and Gibraltar have been linked together for centuries, dating back to the 1704 Siege of Gibraltar! And beyond our strong British military link, we have other similarities. The speakers will unravel the connections…
If you missed the fascinating illustrated talk by ‘The Friends of Gibraltar Heritage Society’, you can enjoy a recording of it on our website from Monday 11 September through to the end of the festival. Scroll down this page to watch the video.
You’ll be welcomed with a brief look at Gib’s history and heritage, followed by an exploration of the naval connections between us in the distant and more recent past.
Maybe YOU are part of those connections if you were based on ‘The Rock’ at some point in your military service. Perhaps you waved from Gosport as British troops and supplies left the harbour bound for Gibraltar, and onward to conflicts such as the Falklands War…
The military connections between Gosport and Gibraltar are strong and enduring. The two places are important strategic assets for the British military, and they will continue to be linked together for many years to come.
This talk will appeal to historians and those with a personal or general interest alike.
Speakers: Intro by Len Goss of The Friends of Gibraltar Heritage Society, followed by acclaimed military history speaker, Rupert Hague-Holmes.
