Show / Display
Stokes Bay Sailing Club, Stokes Bay Road, Gosport, Hampshire, PO12 2BL
From boatshed to wooden hut to solid clubhouse.
Find out about the history of the Stokes Bay Sailing Club from formation in 1938 and how it was affected by the major role Stokes Bay played in WWII in the lead-up to D-Day. After the War, the Club took over the two-storey building constructed as the
Control Centre for the D-Day embarkation.
Learn about the club’s development over the decades and how it has played an active part in popularising sailing. The club has hosted many national events, even producing its own National and International Champions. Its growing popularity has required the Clubhouse to need extensions, twice! The large membership certainly wouldn’t fit in that wooden shed nowadays!
