Guided Walk
Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Rowner Lane, Rowner, Gosport, Hampshire, PO13 9SU
Enjoy a guided walk, following in the footsteps of 19th century Reverend Richard Foster-Carter (1810-1876), rector of the parish for 40 years.
St Mary the Virgin Church in Rowner is the only Grade 1 Listed building in Gosport. Parts of it date from the 12th century; and the post-manorial ‘benefice’ is still in the hands of the Prideaux-Brune family, once large landowners in Gosport. The Foster-Carter dynasty was hugely influential in Victorian-era Gosport and have left landmarks, artefacts and stories all around the borough.
