Submarine Jolly Rogers tell vivid tales of conflict, ingenuity, and bravery through their striking designs. These talks will delve into the creation and significance of these flags, uncovering the key stories they represent. Participants will explore the newly refreshed Jolly Roger display area and join curator Alexandra Geary to gain deeper insights into this intriguing naval tradition.

Jolly Rogers Toddler Tours
Submarine Museum, Haslar Jetty Road, Gosport PO12 2AS
September 12: Tours at 1000 & 1300
Join the submarine cat from HMS Ultor for a playful and interactive tour, where you’ll spot Jolly Rogers and explore the museum in a fun and engaging adventure.
Songs and sensory props will guide children under 5 and their grown-ups as they explore the museum and learn about the Jolly Rogers crafted and displayed by Royal Navy Submarine crews. At the end of the tour, kids can enjoy a play session and create their own flag to take home.

Life as a Royal Navy Diver

Meet a former naval diver to find out about his experiences of life and work in the Royal Navy.
Experience the Explosion Museum like never before through the eyes of a former Royal Navy diver. Hear firsthand about the dangerous and challenging work he performed, and gain a new perspective on the exhibits.

Shanty Social @ Explosion Museum

Enjoy an afternoon of maritime musical merriment in the company of Rocks ‘n’ Groynes. Our Shanty Social is the perfect place to chat with friends or even make some new ones whilst soaking up the historic atmosphere of the magnificent Grand Magazine.
Priddy’s Hard, a Royal Navy armaments site with a history spanning centuries, features the stunning vaulted Grand Magazine, constructed in 1771 to store barrels of gunpowder.
This historic venue is the perfect setting for our Shanty Social event during Heritage Open Days. Join Rocks ‘n’ Groynes, a local group of shanty singers, for an afternoon of fun and entertainment in truly special surroundings.
