Self led Tour
St. Faiths Church, Victoria Square, Lee-on-the-Solent, Hampshire, PO13 9NF
Pop into what is probably the best example of Art Deco on the Gosport peninsular, and you decide for yourself. Is this the best example of Art Deco in Gosport?
Don’t be fooled by appearances. The exterior of St Faith’s Church in Lee-on-the-Solent looks like a typical 1930s brick building but prepare to be amazed at the Art Deco inspired concrete arches on the inside! Designed by leading architects Seely & Paget who were at the vanguard of Art Deco design.
If you have time, stay and follow the self-guided tours and discover the intertwined history of Lee-on-the-Solent and this building.
Learn about Sir John Robinson, the first superintendent of art at the Victoria & Albert Museum, who financed this seaside resort in 1883 with his plans to build a grand church in the centre. Discover the reasons why it took another 50 years to build a church that befitted the grandeur of this Victorian New Town.
These self-guided tours are based on the very successful tours provided for GHOD in 2023 and 2024.
Volunteers will be available to answer any questions you might have and to also serve refreshments.
