Guided Walk
Meet on the promenade side of Gilkicker car park, Alverstoke, Gosport, Hampshire, PO12 2TR
As the Coastal and Intertidal Archaeological Network (CITiZAN), they are a community archaeolgy project working around the coast of England surveying the archaeology exposed at low tide.
With 6,500+ miles of English coastline CITiZAN cannot hope to monitor it alone. But they can support communities with training in how to recognise and record archaeology using their free smartphone app.
So, charge up your smart phone, dowload the free app and come along to have a go at recording the WW2 embarkation hards and Mulberry Harbour construction sites along Stokes Bay. Working together we can create a richer picture of England’s archaeology within the intertidal zone and have fun doing it!
NOTE: No smart phone, no problem! They will bring a few extra tablets or if you just wanted to come along for the walk then you are most welcome.
The two hour archaeology walk and talk will take you 1.2 miles along the promenade and finish at No 2 Battery West car park.

ACCESS
The majority of the walk will be along the promenade, which is wheelchair and pushchair friendly. Some of the archaeology is on the gravel beach, and people can go for a close look if they chose, but the guide will talk about these features from good view points along the promenade. The walk is 1.2 miles long with parking and toilets at each end, toiets at the halfway point and rest points along route. This is an exposed coastal area so bring clothing layers to suit as there is no shelter. Also consider sensible footwear, especially if you are likely to venture onto the beach.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Please be aware that this route is not circular. The walk will finish at No 2 Battery West car park (opposite end of bay). On bus route X5.
