Guided Tour
Collect your handset from The Gosport Discovery Centre, High Street, Gosport, Hampshire, PO12 1BT
A breath-taking experience in sound and music.
‘Written in Water’ is a portrait of a small town with a big history.
To enter it, download free from Google Play or borrow a free handset from the Discovery Centre, and embark on a series of soundwalks through the town.
Using a GPS-connected headset, the listener enters a musical composition that defies boundaries.
Archive recordings and new interviews with Gosport residents are blended with music recorded and music composed.
A symphony of foghorns and brass bands, reminiscence and imagination, the fleeting present captured and exhibited in sound.
‘Written in Water’ is a virtual recreation of living memory and a vision of a small town’s future: at once strange and magical, an unnerving and ultimately uplifting, joyous experience.
Just borrow a handset from Gosport Discovery Centre with your library card. Or download the free noTours app on your smartphone (Android only) at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=writteninwater.notours.org&hl=en_GB

This is an interview on BBC Radio Solent about the project that provides a nice introduction to the soundwalk as it also contains excerpts:
