Insufficient, unnecessary and now forgotten…
But not forgotten by speaker, Dot Bedenham, who will enlighten you to these early places of education in Gosport.
Her illustrated talk begins in the early 19th Century with schools that were set up for the children of the poor. You will discover that there were schools in the forts and barracks, also Holy Trinity National School, the British School, even a School of Science and Art, to name just a few…
Find out what the sacked headmaster of the Wesleyan School had to say about the state of education in Gosport in the 1890’s… He was not at all happy!
