Straw craft is one of Britain’s oldest traditions; it has been practised for hundreds of years, but it isn’t only about Corn Dollies! The craft includes marquetry, Swiss straw work, models made of straw, lip work, tied straw figures, finials, plaited straw hats and much, much more.
Michael Gates is a fantastic straw worker and a member of The Guild of Straw Craftsmen. He’ll be displaying his work as well as demonstrating this skill whilst chatting with visitors and imparting some of his knowledge. He may even get you involved…..
