This new tour will guide you through several centuries of history related to the western end of Stokes Bay.
Hear about ancient flint tool findings, bog myrtle used to make Saxon ale, strategic defensive positions, buried barrels of smuggled french wine, brickworks that supplied material for important local buildings, grand private residences and gardens.
You’ll follow the tale as you follow along some of the River Alver. Be prepared for exploring wooded areas and climbing some inclines so bring your walking shoes!

Surfaces range from pavement, shingle, grassland and woodland. Not really suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. Older childen under supervision and dogs on leads are welcome though. Toilets are located at start and return point.

‘Pay & Display’ parking at No 2 Battery. Bayside Cafe has accesible toilets, refreshments, food and lovely ice cream.
