RIP Terry Hinkley

  • Post category:Obituary
Our Gosport Team are deeply saddened by the passing of Terry Hinkley on 16 October 2023.
For over two decades, he’d led fascinating guided tours of Royal Clarence Victualing Yard, and some other areas of Gosport, for Heritage Open Days. He was a font of knowledge on local history, and his storytelling style of presentation not only informed but also entertained thousands of locals and visitors over the years.
Last November, as part of the borough’s 100th anniversary, Terry received an award from the Mayor as one of the ‘unsung heroes’ who deserved recognition for their contributions to the community.
Terry will be missed by many. Any condolences or memories posted here will be passed on to his family.
The funeral will be held at South Downs Natural Burial Site, The Sustainability Centre, Droxford Road, East Meon, Petersfield, GU32 1HR at 11am on Wednesday 8 November. The family request that people do not wear black and that any donations should be in lieu of flowers to Marie Curie (https://www.mariecurie.org.uk/donate) whose carers looked after him so well over his last week.
