Exhibition
Gosport Museum & Art Gallery (The Roberts Room), Walpole Road, Gosport, Hampshire, PO12 1NS
This Facebook Group has over 22,000 members from near and far, all associated with Gosport in some way and loving its heritage. This display brings some of the best images from their virtual vault into hard copy for all to view…
This display has cherry-picked just some of the 50,000+ images that have been shared on the Facebook group over the years, many of these photos and documents coming from private family collections. Pubs, shops, transport of all kinds, roads and coastal views, public services, leisure venues, and celebrations all feature.
Come along and meet other people who remember the Gosport of their youth and have tales to tell handed down from forebears. Bring along your own old photos or documents to show around. Arrange to meet old friends here for a leisurely catch-up in the wonderful Grade II listed community building.
In this 80th year since D-Day 1944, the exhibition will also include local photographs, audio memories, and a wonderful array of knitted items on this theme created by local people. Each Saturday, there will be some D-Day related activities for children.
As always, this Exhibition is held in memory of the late Dave Rowland – founder of the Facebook Group in 2013. Can you find his floor tile in the Courtyard of Gosport Museum and Art Gallery?
