St Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 32 High Street, Gosport, PO12 1DF
Come along into one of the oldest and most beautiful churches of the Catholic diocese of Portsmouth and learn about how the Marian Franciscan friars and sisters are impacting on the local community. Listen to the Franciscans sing their beautiful polyphony and the ancient Christian chant.
- Discover the royal connection with Spain’s Carlist queen, Maria Francisca of Bragança, who came to Gosport in exile and was buried at St Mary’s in 1834.
- Find the benches that show shrapnel damage and scorching from WW2 and the memorial to those from this parish who perished in WW1.
- Admire the splendid architecture and fine features, including magnificent carvings, ceilings and stained glass windows.
- You might even discover a link to Charlie Chaplain!
Info will be available to read or people will be on hand to answer your questions and assist you. A fun ‘trail sheet’ will be available for children.

ACCESS
Access is restricted during Services so please check the times for each day. Accessible toilets are available in the hall foyer every day.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
On the Saturday the ‘Sign 4 Fun’, a deaf awareness choir, will be entertaining just outside the church fom 1100 as they use assisted sign language to music from popular songs. Come and sing or sign along with them and meet their hearing dogs, before enjoying all that is inside the church.
Also on the Saturday there will be a concert with the Marian Franciscan Friars and Sisters from 1400. They will be performing Gregorian chants and sacred polyphony.
Refreshments available on Saturday only from the Church Hall.
