“The Line to the End of the Rainbow” was how the railway to Lee on the Solent was advertised. Join Peter Keats (Gosport Railway Society) for his illustrated talk which will take you on an armchair ride along the line to see the sights.
On 12th May 1894, the official opening of the three and a half mile Lee on the Solent Light Railway took place, enabling the first passenger trains to operate between Fort Brockhurst station and the terminus at Lee on the Solent. All set to become a thriving holiday resort, you can see why Lee on the Solent may have been considered the ‘pot of gold’ at the end of the Line. Did things go to plan for Lee terminus? Find out during this talk….
