Jesse White Mario: Writer & philanthropist (Wikipedia page). Jessie Meriton Mario nee White, born in Gosport in 1832, in Parham Road. Recognised in Italy as a hero(ine) of the Risorgimento, and actually ran Guiseppe Garibaldi’s field hospitals during the latter’s campaign from Sicily to Naples.
