Enjoy this guided walk, exploring the historic importance of Rowner and Alver Valley to the Gosport area.

An introduction to the historic importance of Rowner and Alver Valley to the Gosport area. During the walk learn about over 5000 years of local history, the Saxon settlement, the Norman fort, who the Quarr were, gold and axes found in HMS Sultan. How important Rowner was for 2 medieval kings, the RAF and much more.

This is not suitable for wheelchairs or people with mobility impairment due to the terrain. There some rest points along the way but feel free to bring a fold-up stool or chair if you need to be seated. Within the Alver Valley Garden Centre there are toilets, including accessible, and a great Cafe.

Additional information

Please arrive 15 minutes before start time. Meet your Guide to the side of the shop entrance. Lots of walking, through and along some uneven ground bordered by long grasses and gorse, also including slopes. Please have suitable footwear and clothing for the terrain. Insect repellent is highly recommended, as is bringing a bottle of refreshment, and sun protection if required.
