Guided Walk
Gosport Leisure Centre, Gosport Leisure Park, Forest Way, Gosport, Hampshire, PO13 0ZX
A mixture of historical defence and nature await in this walk, where you will discover the spooky goings on at an isolation hospital, anti-tank stop lines and a village dating back to the Roman conquest.
Visit Monks Wood, a hidden gem of grassland and woodland, opening out to views over Portsmouth. Try and spot the old orchard and a whole host of wildlife, while taking in the views of Fort Brockhurst.
Gosport Voluntary Action were awarded a Heritage Fund grant to deliver an exciting programme of local historical walks, which they entitled ‘Walking Past’.
This one-year funded project (extended by a year due to Covid 19) commenced in September 2019.
The aims of the project are to:
• Inspire interest in Gosport’s built, coastal and natural heritage
• Engage local residents and visitors
• Create free, walking trails at a wide range of heritage sites that appeal to a diverse range of people
• Motivate people to become involved in and support their heritage with a variety of volunteering opportunities.
The project is culminating in HODs 2021 with all 6 walks being available to participate in.

ACCESS
Part of this walk is off-road and and the footpath narrow, around Fort Brockhurst and Monks Walk, making it unsuitable in parts for wheelchair users and pushchairs. This is a fairly long walk. Please bring sufficient drinks and wear comfortable clothes and shoes.

This event will run in line with local & national government guidelines at the time of the festival.

Please meet outside the front of the Leisure Centre, near the benches (but away from the main entrance). Arrive 10 minutes before start time. Your Guide will be holding a pink HODs H.
