55. Fortified Senses: Art That Breaks the Walls

Immerse yourself in a bold collusion of history and creativity – projection, texture and light turns Fort Brockhurst inside out.

Experience heritage differently through this multi-media event. Take part in immersive installations, listen to book readings and see how we use art and culture to access heritage and historic buildings in an exciting and dynamic way.

You will also have the chance to see other projects by the Sustainable Conservation Trust and learn why the preservation and sustainable reuse of historic and culturally significant buildings is so important.

This includes:

  • Presentations about Fort Gilkicker at 1230, 1330, and 1430 in the Keep.
  • Workshop & readings by Braille artist Clarke Reynolds. These will  be outside in the centre area of the Keep, depending on weather at 11.30am and 2pm.

Access

Ground surfaces can be uneven so please watch your footing. Due to stepped entrances to some rooms, some areas may not be  accessible for wheelchair users, but these display rooms have a ramp. Car park in Gunners Way. Other parking on-road in the area. Please do not use the Range car park unless you are also shopping there. Toilets available on site but not accessible.

In this time of climate emergency, the greenest building is an existing building. Whilst at the fort, you might like to look at period history displays by The Fort Cumberland Guard and also Pompey Pals. Also, you could join a Guided Tour of the fort at 1115, 1200, 1300, 1400, 1500.
