When the Royal Navy finally introduced submarines at the turn of the 20th Century it was a revolution for the service and its new submariners, but few people know of the many years of struggle by numerous designers and inventors to make this happen.
In this illustrated talk, author and historian, Richard M Jones, will tell the story of two remarkable men, James Ellis Howard and Charles Seymour Allan, and their journeys to become the first inventors of submarines for the Royal Navy, only to both have it snatched out from under them, in the ultimate arms race that would change the world.
Author and historian Richard Jones has dedicated his life to the research of shipwrecks and other historic disasters that history may have overlooked. Over 30 years of research has resulted in an extensive archive of shipwrecks, 21 published books, and 13 successful memorial campaigns. There will be an opportunity to purchase signed copies of Richard’s books, should you wish…
