The story of Camper & Nicholsons, the oldest leisure marine company in the world, began back in 1782 when a shipyard was started on the land of Fort Charles at the harbour shoreline. In time this became well known as Camper & Nicholsons or C&N’s.

Endeavour Quay, as it is nowadays called, is a very modern boat repair facility. But the location, aspect and layout of the site has not changed since those early years……

Many Gosport people will have either worked for C&N or joined the crowds that watched the launching of boats from those sheds into the harbour.

Visitors will have a tour of the boatsheds where many famous yachts were built and launched. Due to safety requirements, the lifting operation cannot be available but the tour will include access to a selection of photographs and drawings from the Camper & Nicholson archive. The C & N Archivist will be on hand to answer questions and give extra information.
