Explosion! the Museum of Naval Firepower, Royal Naval Armament Depot, Priddys Hard, Heritage Way, Gosport, Hampshire, PO12 4LE
Join one of our volunteer guides for a unique glimpse inside Building 316-one of the museum’s stores containing historically significant weapons- and a chance to learn more about the other fascinating buildings that make up Priddy’s Hard.
Priddy’s Hard is a former fort and Naval armaments depot and is now home to Explosion Museum of Naval Firepower. The museum holds an extensive range of guns, missiles and torpedoes spanning hundreds of years of Naval history. The buildings of Priddy’s Hard include the magnificent Grand Magazine built in 1771 so that the dangerous gunpowder stores could be moved from Portsmouth. Building 316 has been used as a Quick Fire Shell Store and carpenters’ machine shop during its history and now houses part of the National Museum of the Royal Navy’s large armaments collection.
In this tour our knowledgeable volunteer guide will reveal more about the fascinating objects as well as the building itself and the wider context of Priddy’s Hard.
