Guided Walk
Royal Haslar Hospital, Haslar Road, PO12 2AA – Meet at The Gatehouse
Learn of Haslar Hospital’s history and current-day development on this tour of the grounds and Chapel.
Royal Haslar Hospital was the first proper naval hospital in the country, receiving its first patients in 1753, and much later became the hospital for Tri-Service personnel and for Gosport residents. After much local protest, it closed in 2008.
The development plans are to retain and enhance everything of heritage significance, heal the scars of the late 20th century and construct new buildings to complement the old ones.
Guides from the Haslar Heritage Group will lead tours of Haslar grounds, pointing out buildings of unique architecture, telling of its rich history and illustrious military background, and also explaining the future roles this special heritage site will eventually offer.
Please arrive 10 minutes before start time at the Main Gate. The tour finishes at St Lukes Chapel.
Duration: approx 90 – 120 minutes.
