In Person

Show / Display

Diving Museum, No2 Battery, Stokes Bay Road, Gosport, Hampshire, PO12 2QU

Explore secrets of the deep and diving techniques through time, within a Victorian Gun Battery which now houses the award-winning Diving Museum…

A wide collection of diving equipment and information housed in a Victorian military battery – the last surviving battery of the Stokes Bay Lines. The inventors of the diving helmet trialled and proved their helmet on wrecks in this area. The world’s only surviving example, which led to the development of the diving helmet, is on display in the museum together with artefacts from military, scientific, commercial and recreational diving.

Volunteers are on hand to give you a personal tour of the building and the exhibits. There are lots of activities for children and, weather permitting, a range of outdoor diving exhibits to explore. And they’ll be a chance to get ‘dressed’ in diving gear…
