Show / Display
Walpole Park, 4 Endeavour Close, Gosport, Hampshire, PO12 1NB
Experience an exciting representation of the 1944 D-Day Normandy Landings re-enacted by models on Walpole Park Lake – with explosions!
The display will be put on by the Portsmouth Model Boat Display Team (an Affiliate Club of the National Museum of the Royal Navy).
View a mock D-Day model battle with pyrotechnics on water, which will include radio-controlled model warships, landing crafts and tanks portraying the liberation of France from Axis forces, as one of the major campaigns of WW2. Get ready for some model bangs and flashes as part of the display (these will be announced in advance so that spectators can be prepared) and enjoy a commentary which will explain what you are seeing.
Various models will be running on the water throughout most of the day, accompanied by some themed music.
And they’ll be lots to look at in a large static display of models, on the grass area, which will include models operated by club members. Younger people will have the chance to operate some of the models.
Members will be on hand all day to talk to the public about the models on display and the hobby of model-making.
Please arrive in good time to see a mock D-Day model battle at 1400 hrs. This will last about 30 mins.
