RNSM Submarine Museum Car Park , Haslar Jetty Road, Gosport, Hampshire, PO12 2AS

Enjoy insights to the military history and important landmarks from your Heritage Guide during this circular walk on roads and pathways of the Haslar Peninsular (a designated Conservation Area). This southern tip of Gosport is surrounded by water on three sides. To the north is Haslar Lake, to the east is Portsmouth Harbour and to the south is the Solent. To the west is the Clayhall suburb. The flat and low lying land allows for wonderful long-distance views across the water.Looking inland, the former Haslar Hospital dominates the environment with its mass of red brick buildings. Surrounding the hospital is a series of military establishments including the former HMS Hornet, Coastal Forces base, now housing the Royal Naval Sailing Association’s sailing club. There’s also the Victorian gunboat yard and ship testing tanks, along with the former submarine base at Blockhouse complete with the Submarine Escape Training Tower. There will be a stop enroute at ‘The Fighting Cocks’ pub for refreshments / toilets.
Great photo opportunities throughout the walk.Starts at the Submarine Museum car park and finishes close by at the Millennium Walkway and ”WaterBus” jetty.Duration approx 120 mins. Distance covered about 2.3 miles.
