Guided Walk
The Pump House Cafe (meeting point), Cooperage Green, Weevil Lane, Gosport, Hampshire, PO12 1AX
Learn about rioting drovers, press gangs and nightmarish pest control!
On this guided walk you’ll hear all about the history of how the Royal Navy addressed the massive challenge of provisioning the fleet in times of war and peace from the Royal Clarence Naval Victualling Yard in Weevil Lane. It is fascinating; often both terrifying and amusing!
Huge quantities of ale, rum, bread, meat and other provisions were produced from the Yard for the Royal Navy, using the newest technology of the times. Many of the original buildings survive to this day, including the Grade II* listed Bakery, Granary and Slaughterhouse, as well as the grand Ceremonial Arch.
And you can enjoy a free snifter of grog and try a ships biscuit!
