jonathon routhToday in Gosport’s Past:  on 24 November 1927, ‘Candid Camera’ star & prankster Jonathan Routh was born in Gosport. Other than the TV programme, he wrote the odd book (emphasis on ‘odd’); ‘The Good Loo Guide’ for one, and, for the American market: ‘The Better John Guide’, He died aged 80 on 4 June 2008.

 

24 novemberAlso Today in Gosport’s Past:  on 24 November 1930, local marine artist Martin Snape died. He was born in Spring Garden House (between The Railway Inn and Spring Garden Guest House, on 31 December 1852. He is buried in the cemetery at the Church of St Mary the Virgin, Rowner Lane.
