2 August

Today in Gosport’s Past:- it’s all about music, on 2 August 1992, folk legends Fairport Convention, having topped the bill at the Gosport Festival at Walpole Park the previous night (1 August), played under a small open-sided marquee in the garden of the Alverbank during the afternoon; a proper gig, not just an ad-hoc thing. Probably the most significant event at the Alverbank since aircraft genius Robert Smith-Barry & his wife lived in the house in 1917/18. A terrific afternoon, and the weather played very nicely.
Then, 14 years ago today, on 2 August 2001, Fort Brockhurst hosted the Gosport Festival, with James Brown, and Big Brother Soul performing. Credits to original photographers.
